The Beauty of a Lake and a Forested Countryside (Cuyahoga Valley National Park)
When I came to this clearing along the shores of Kendal lake, my first thought was of a friend who I could imagine spending a morning or afternoon painting "plein air" while smiling away at the beauty all around. Yes, it was most definitely a sight and something I might just add to a collection of my images to one day digitally painting.
So that's the story and the thought behind this image. To compose it though, I decided to use some of the nearby foreground to lead the eyes slowly into the image. Nearby I kept it somewhat in shadows or a little darker. Towards the middle of the lake and the far shores, I wanted to bring out a brighter, warmer hue to the colors. My thinking was to use the nearby vegetation as a frame and lead the eye forward. I was later able to do some work with a Foliage and Sunshine CEP filter to bring that effect out. The last part was using a Polarization and Detail filter to bring more details to the overcast skies and clouds above.
